We're definitely different. And it's not because we're trying to differentiate ourselves from all other churches past or present. We aren't disgruntled or unhappy. To the contrary!
MasterPiece Church is a new congregation based in the village of Laveen to serve the people of southwest Phoenix. It is my intention to develop a network of vital mission-driven, medium-size (multiplying before they top 200 people) congregations.MasterPiece is not traditional, contemporary, purpose-driven, emerging, organic, or cell -- not that any of those things are bad. It's just that none of the common labels really capture what's going on with this church. We're simply working at becoming a faithful and mission-driven congregation that lines up with what God is doing here. That's our vision.
We do worship "family style." When we gather, children and youth are in the middle of it all. (Yes, it can be a little crazy sometimes but we're not too worried by the chaos.) MasterPiece people are: business leaders, children, child-less, cooks, divorced, educators, engineers, foster kids, gardeners, government workers, homeless, hospitality workers, jobless, immigrants, married, middle-aged, pregnant, retailers, singles, students, therapists, tradesmen, twenty-somethings -- all from a variety of places around the world coming together to be a part of the difference that God is making.
