We sponsor and staff the MASTERREADERS CLUB. This is a free tutoring program for 6-8th grade students who want to improve their reading skills. They meet 4-5:30 PM, Wednesdays, during the school year. One-on-one reading coaches emphasize fluency and comprehension in a supervised setting. The club meets in room 12 at the Laveen Center of South Mountain Community College, 5001 W Dobbins Rd, Laveen (old Laveen Elementary School). FINANCIAL PEACE UNIVERSITY -- We offer the popular 13-week class with Dave Ramsey from 6:30 - 8:30 PM, each Wednesday, in Room 7 at the Laveen Center of South Mountain Community College, 5001 W Dobbins Rd. You don't have to be in financial trouble to benefit. Most people who take the class are doing okay but want to improve their financial situation. There is a fee to cover the cost of materials.
OUR ENGLISH CONVERSATION CLUB meet at 8 AM each Thursday in the Laveen McDonald's, Baseline Rd and 51st Ave. The idea is to provide adults learning to speak English a regular opportunity to talk with some sympathetic native English speakers. Most of the participants are Chinese immigrants but others are certainly welcome. Free.
